REMEMBERING THE FALLEN OF WW1

Born in Birmingham in 1893.His mother was Catherine Crewe , but there is no record of who his father was.

He enlisted in Birmingham and his disembarkation into France was  on 27/07/1915. He was killed in action on 01/07/1916.

The website, Stit Warwickshire.uk has found an entry in the

St Vincent's Journal no.23 Summer 1916 that commented on him been killed in the battle.It also went on to state"He came to St Paul's home in January 1897.The sisters there retain a very pleasant recollection of him.He left for

St Vincent's home(working boys hostel,

102 Moseley Road,Birmingham) on 27/04/1908.

He joined the Devons  at the outbreak of war".

He was awarded the 1914-1915 Star,the British War 1914 -1918 and Allied Victory medals.

At the time of his death his mother was living at

38 Florence Street , Birmingham; though there is no evidence to suggest that William was also living here.
