Born in Islington ,London in 1890.

His parents were  John Coshell(1859-1932) and Florence(surname unable to be discovered)(born in 1866).They were married in 1887,though no record of the wedding could be found(the date has been taken from the 1911 census).

John had a brother,Henry James(1891-29/05/1951) and a sister Florence (1888-1889).

In the 1891 census the family were recorded as living at

184 Balls Pond Road,Islington,London. John senior was employed as a labourer.

In the 1901 census,the family had moved to

13 Dorset Street,Islington,London. John senior was employed as a builders labourer. 

In the 1911 census,John senior was still a builders labourer and John junior was also working now as a clerk at a shirt manufacturers. The family were still living on Dorset Street, only this time at number 54.

John enlisted in London and his date of disembarkation into France was on 27/07/1915.

On 11/05/1916 he married

Susannah Helen Dudmish(06/07/1892-1971) at

St Pauls Church Canonbury, Islington ,London. His profession was given as Lance Corporal 9th Battalion Devonshire Regiment also gas mechanic. His fathers was given that of scaffolder. He was recorded as living at

6 Wakeham Street ,Islington,London.      

He was killed in action on 01/07/1916. 

John was awarded the 1914-1915 Star,the 1914-1918 British War and Allied Victory medals.

His wife Susannah, remarried in 1922 to Johns brother Henry.
