12801 Sarjeant Daniel Williams

Born in Rydfelin,Pontypridd,Glamorgan,Wales in 1890.

His parents were Daniel Williams(born in 1858) and Mary(surname unknown(born in 1858)). They were married in 1887.

Daniel had 2 brothers; William(born in 1889) and

David John(14/04/1893-1970).

He also had a sister, Ceciel Ann(born in 1894).

In the 1891 & 1901  censuses the family were recorded as  living at Gellidawel Road Glyntaff,Pontypridd. Daniel snr was employed as a platelayer.

In the 1911 census, it showed that the family were now living at 33 Ebenezer Street, Rhydfelan, Pontypridd.

Daniel snr was still a platelayer and Daniel was now working as a miner or collier.

He enlisted in Cardiff and his date of disembarkation into France was on 02/04/1915.

He was killed in action on 01/07/1916.

Daniel  was awarded the 1914-1915 Star,

the 1914-1918 British War and Allied Victory medals. 

As his parents were Welsh speakers only,the inscription on his headstone was written in Welsh.

"Huna, Huna Daniel Bach Ti Gei Eto Godiniach".

This translates in English to ;

"Sleep Sleep Little Daniel Thou Shalt Rise Again".
