Born in Rochdale in 1896.

His parents were Charles Midgley(born in 1871) and Ada Tetlock(1872-1933). They married on 20/11/1895.

Tom had 3 brothers; John Thomas Tetlock(1900-1961), Harry(22/11/1901-1986) and Alec(1910-30/10/1960).

He also had 3 sisters; Doris(born in 1898) , Ada(born in 1902) and Nellie(born in 1906).

In the 1901 census the family were recorded as living at 13 March Street Rochdale. Charles was employed as a bookbinder.

In the 1911 census the family were now recorded as living at 38 Weston Avenue Buersil Rochdale. Charles was still a bookbinder and Tom was an apprentice fitter on textile machinery. 

He enlisted in Rochdale and his date of disembarkation into France was on 14/09/1915.

He was killed in action on 01/07/1916.

He was awarded the 1914-1915 Star,the 1914-1918 British War and Allied Victory medals.

The Rochdale Observer - Saturday 22 July 1916 - " Midgley - In loving memory of Private Tom Tetlock Midgley

(Devon Regiment), killed in action in France July 1st 1916.

He still lives in the hearts of those who love him.

Deeply mourned.

May his soul rest in peace.

And may the light perpetual shine upon him.

From all at home."

The Rochdale Observer - Wednesday 26 July 1916 - "Private T.T.Midgley - Private Tom Tetlock Midgley of 20 Buersil Avenue Rochdale was killed on July 1st. He was the eldest of seven children and joined the Devonshire Regiment on November 17th 1914. Formerly he was apprenticed fitter employed by Messrs. W. Tatham Limited Vulcan works."
