Born in Burbage,Derbyshire in 1895. He was baptised on 27/11/1895.
His parents were George Francis Norton(1858-1926) and Hannah Bramwell (1866-1901). they were married in 1890.
This was Georges' 2nd marriage,he had previously been married to Elizabeth Edge(1863-1890). They had married on 29/12/1880.
Sidney's siblings were, his half brother William Arthur(1881-23/05/1946),his half sisters Alice(born in 1883) and Marian(born in 1888). and his sisters Mary(1891-1913) and Lizzie(1893-1968).
In the 1901 census,George was a widower again after the recent death of his 2nd wife. The family were recorded as living at 23 Grin Row Burbage,Derbyshire. George is employed as a blacksmith.
In the 1911 census,the family had moved to
93 Macclesfield Road,Burbage,Buxton,Derbyshire. George is still a blacksmith,but recorded as being one at a lime company. Sidney is also working for a lime company but as a painters assistant.
He enlisted in Buxton Derbyshire and his date of disembarkation into France was on 06/10/1915.
He was killed in action on 01/07/1916.
Sidney was awarded the 1914-1915 Star,the 1914-1918 British War and Allied Victory medals.
