15326 Private John Henry Bradford

Born in 1894 in Shillingford Devon. His parents were James Bradford(born in 1853) and Jane(maiden name unknown.Born in 1862).They married in 1882(though I could find  no record of the marriage).

John had 3 brothers; William(born in 1885),

James(born in 1888) and Ernest(born in 1891).

He also had 2 sisters(Alice(born in 1882) and

Lucy(born in 1884).

In the 1901 census,the family were recorded as living at      No.5 Lower Shillingford  Devon. James was employed as an agricultural labourer.

In the 1911 census,they were recorded as living at the same address. James and John were both employed as farm labourers.

John enlisted in Exeter and his date of disembarkation into France was on 01/10/1915. He was killed in action on 01/07/1916.

He was awarded the 1914-1915 Star,the 1914-1918 British War and Allied Victory medals.

Western Times - Saturday 22 July 1916 - " Mr and Mrs J Bradford of Lower Schillingford, Alphington, have received information from the war office that their youngest son who belonged to the 9th Devons has been killed in action. Deceased was respected by all with whom he came in contact , and his demise will be much regretted by a large circle of friends. Before the war deceased, who was 20 years of age was employed by Mr Eakers of Peamore".
