Born in Bideford Devon in 1891.
His parents were George Dark (1870-14/05/1894) and
Ellen Gammon(1870-1944). They were married in 1891.
Roberts siblings were his half brothers
William Verren Gammon(1888-11/10/1950) and
Albert Claude(31/07/1901-1971),his sister Florence Ellen
(born in 1894) and half sister Lillian Annie(1898-1918).
George Dark,a general labourer had died in 1894 and Ellen became head of the house and she was employed as a dressmaker. The family lived at 8 Lemon Street, Bideford, Devon.
In 1905 Ellen remarried to William James Welsford
(1866-1926).
At some point after 1901 Robert moved to South Wales as the 1911 Welsh census finds him boarding at Woodville House,
4 Railway Terrace,Skewen,Glamorgan,where he was working as a colliery labourer.
In 1914 he married Ethel Kate Evans(02/05/1894-1980) and they had a daughter Florence Kate(11/07/1914-2004).
He enlisted in Swansea and his date of disembarkation into France was on 17/08/1915.
He was killed in action on 01/07/1916.
He was awarded the 1914-1915 Star,the 1914-1918 British War and Allied Victory medals.
At the time of his death Ethel's home address was given as
7 Graham Terrace,Mooretown,Skewen,Neath,Glamorgan.
In 1921 Ethel remarried to John Henry Marley(1892-1964).
