18341 Private Frederick Henry Bowden

Born in Cornworthy, Devon in 1890.

His parents were Thomas Lewis Bowden(1852-1930) and Mary Ash Beare(born in 1851). they were married in 1873.

Frederick had 2 brothers; William Thomas(born in 1876) and  John Theodore( 24/03/1894-1977). He also had 4 sisters; Ellen Louisa(1873-1931), Florence Mary (born in 1879), Annie(born in 1885) and Elsie Kate(born in 1888).

In the 1901 census the family were living at

The Watermans Arms,Bow Bridge,Tuckenhay,Ashprington

nr Totnes,Devon.

Thomas Bowden was the publican and also a shoe maker.

In the 1911 census the family were still at the Watermans Arms,but now Frederick had joined his father and was now a boot maker.

Frederick enlisted in Plymouth and his date of disembarkation into France was on the 12/12/1915.

He was killed in action on 01/07/1916.

​

He was awarded the 1914-1915 Star,

the 1914-1918 British War and the Allied Victory medals. 

​
