Born in Sunbury Middlesex in 1881. He was baptised on 18/02/1881.
His parents were Robert Malcolm Eales(22/10/1845-11/12/1893) and Annie Startin(19/11/1854-16/01/1940).
They were married on 06/02/1875.
Joseph had 4 brothers; Robert Malcolm Guy
(1879-23/10/1961),Alfred Percy Clargo(1882-1951),
Arthur Douglas(1888-1963) and
Edward Leonard(1891-17/01/1955).
He also had 4 sisters; Florence Startin Mary
(19/11/1877-19/01/1953),
Edith Winifred(1885-24/08/1954),
Ethel Elizabeth(1886-20/05/1940) and
Olive Decima(30/09/1892-29/01/1985).
In the 1881 and 1891 census' the family were recorded as living at Sunbury Railway Station. Robert snr was employed as the station master.
In the 1901 census the family were shown to have moved to 2 Sherland Villas, Twickenham,london. Joseph was a clerk by trade but was out of employment at this time.
By the time of the 1911 census, Joseph had moved to Exeter and was living at 2 Warren Lane Longbrook Street. He was working as a furniture and general dealer.
He enlisted in Exeter and was killed in action on 01/07/1916.
He was awarded the 1914-1918 British War and Allied Victory medals.
