Born in Exmouth in 1894.
His parents were Frederick John Matthews(1861-1921) and Annie Richards(1863-1929). They were married in 1885.
Frederick had 1 sister; Bessie(1889-1955).
In the 1901 census the family were recorded as living in
New Street,Exmouth,Devon. Fredericks father was employed as a cab driver(groom).
In the 1911 census,they were still living in New Street,but the house number was given as being number 14. Frederick was employed as a porter at a greengrocers whilst his father was a porter at a grocers.
He enlisted in Exmouth and was killed in action on 01/07/1916.
He was awarded the 1914-1918 British War and Allied Victory medals.
