Born in Woodbury Devon in 1879.

His parents were Henry Rose(born in 1850) and Emma Hutchings(born in 1850). They married in 1875.

Emma already had a son Thomas William(born in 1871) from a previous relationship

Albert had 6 brothers; Frederick

(born in 1877),Harry(1880-23/08/1918), William

(born in 1881), Arthur(born in 1886), Ernest

(born in 1887), and Charles(born in 1890).

Albert also had a sister, Beatrice(born in 1892).

In the 1881 census, the family were recorded as living at Ridgeway Cottages Rockbeare in Devon. Alberts father was employed as a general labourer.

In the 1891 census,when he was aged 12, Albert was recorded as living and working as a farm servant at

Strete Farm, Whimple, Exeter, Devon.

In the 1901 census, Albert had moved back home,now at Marsh Green, Rockbeare, Exeter, Devon. He was working as a general labourer ,whilst his father was an agricultural labourer.

In the 1911 census,he is recorded as working as a farm labourer on a farm in Lower Cabden,Whimple,Exeter, Devon.   

Albert enlisted in Exeter and was killed in action on 01/07/1916.

He was awarded the 1914-1918 British War and

 Allied Victory medals.

 

His brother Harry(Henry) joined the 1st Battalion of the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry and was killed on 23/08/1918. He is buried in Adanac Military Cemetery,Miraumont and Pys,France.

Both men are remembered on the

Rockbeare 1914-1918 War Memorial.
