Born in Kenn,Devon in 1897.
His parents were Charles Milford(1868-1944) and
Mary Jane Cousins(1863-1940).They married in 1895.
John had 2 sisters, Olive Mary(23/11/1900-1982) and Eva(28/05/1902-1997).
In the 1901 census, the family were recorded as living at Clapham,Kenn,Devon. Charles was employed as a carpenter.
In the 1911 census the family were still at the same address and Charles was still working as a carpenter. John was still attending school.
He enlisted in Plymouth and was killed in action on 01/07/1916.
He was awarded the 1914-1918 British War and
Allied Victory Medals.
His family announced his death in the
Friday 28 July 1916 edition of the
Exeter and Plymouth Gazette.
"Milford-Killed in action on July 1st, John Charles Milford, the only son of C. and M.J. Milford of Clapham,Haldon,aged 18 years. "Sleep on beloved."."
