Born in Plympton Devon in 1888.

His parents were Edward Collings(1860-1910) and

Ellen Lee(1861-1950). They married in 1886.

He had 6 brothers;John(1890-1922),

Henry(born in 1895),Frederick George(1897-27/01/1965),

William Charles(1899-1963),Albert Edward(1902-1967) and Alfred Stanley(1904-1965).

He also had 2 sisters;Mabel(born in 1887) and

Alice (born in 1893).

In the 1901 census the family were recorded as living in Sparkwell Village Plympton Devon and Thomas' father was employed as a clay pit labourer.

In the 1911 census,the family were still living in Sparkwell Village,but Thomas' father had passed away the year before,

so his mother was put down as head of the family and she was recorded as being employed as a domestic day worker.

Thomas was working now and he was employed as a

clay pit labourer. 

Thomas enlisted in Plymouth and he was killed in action on 01/07/1916.

He was awarded the British War 1914-1918 and

Allied Victory medals.
