Born in Gillingham Dorset in 1893. He was baptised on 30/04/1894.
His parents were John Samuel Pinn(1867-1929) and
Hannah Raymond Abbott(1868-1920). They were married in 1888.
Herbert had 3 brothers; Leslie John(04/02/1895-1977),William George(1897-06/09/1916) and
Jack Raymond(1906-1925).
He also had 3 sisters; Edith Ruby(born in 1888),
Clarice Florence(13/11/1890-1983) and
Myra Victoria(24/05/1900-21/11/1990).
In the 1901 census the family were recorded as living on Queen Street ,Gillingham,Dorset. John was employed as a printers machinist.
The 1911 census showed that the family were now living at 46 Mansfield Road, Walthamstow,Essex. John was a printers machine minder and Herbert was now working as an assistant provisions merchant.
He enlisted in Walthamstow and was killed in action on 01/07/1916.
He was awarded the 1914-1918 British War and
Allied Victory medals.
His brother William served as Private(18783) 9th(Service)Battalion Devonshire Regiment and was killed in action on 06/09/1916. He is buried in Delville Wood Cemetery. Longueval, Departement de la Somme, Picardie, France.
