Born in Marylebone, London, Middlesex on 20/12/1877.
He was baptised on 13/02/1878.
His parents were Henry Dunkin Shepard
(03/07/1845-19/05/1902) and Harriette Jessie Lee
(18/12/1854-1890). They were married on 14/07/1875.
He had one brother,Ernest Howard(10/12/1879-1976),who was to become the illustrator foe the Winnie the Pooh and
Wind in the Willows books.
He also had a sister,Ethel Jessie(1877-15/11/1947).
In the 1881 census the family were recorded as living at
55 Springfield Road Marylebone,London. Henry Shepard was employed as an architect.
In the 1891 census the family were living with Henry's brother and his family at 54 Gordon Square St Pancreas, London more than likely due to the death of Cyrils mother in 1890.
Henry was still employed as an architect.
In the 1901 census,the family had moved to 34 Shooters Hill Road, Kidbrooke,St James, London.Henry was still an architect and now Cyril was working as an insurance brokers clerk.
In 1907 &1908,he is recorded in the London register as living at 24 Meadowcourt Road ,Woolwich,London.
In the 1911 census Cyril was recorded living with his sister at 41 Blackheath Park,Blackheath, London. He was now employed as an insurance underwriters clerk.
He enlisted as a private in the Inns of Court Officers Training Corps,before being commissioned into the Devonshire Regiment on 03/05/1915.
His disembarkation into France was on 22/05/1915 and he was killed in action on 01/07/1916.
He was awarded the British War 1914-1918 and the Allied Victory medals.
In his will, read on 13/09/1916,probate was given to Mrs Flossie Penfold Geddes(1888-1969),wife of Andrew Thomas Geddes.Effects were £1449 6s 4d
(worth today £141,792.14).
