Born in St Helier,Jersey in 1882.

His parents were Henry George Bewhay(born in 1855)and Mary Cuirol(born in 1845). They were married on 09/05/1878. At the time of the marriage, Mary was a widower having previously been married to John Buesnel, who she had a son with also named John(born in 1870).

George had a brother called Arthur Henry(1878-1952) and a sister, Alice Julia(born on 10/02/1876).

In the 1891 census the family can be found living at

42 Great Union Street St Helier Jersey. Henry is employed as a builder & plasterer.

By the time of the 1901 census, George had enlisted into the Devonshire Regiment and is recorded as being a Private at the St Peters Barracks Jersey.

I have no record of the time he served in the Devonshire Regiment but the fact he was only awarded the 1914-1918 British War and Allied Victory medals does suggest that he had left the army and then re-enlisted at a later date.

He was killed in action on 01/07/1916.

At the time of his death, his father was recorded as living at 5 Lewis Street, St Helier, Jersey.
