Born on 07/06/1893 in Bradford, Yorkshire. He was baptised on 23/07/1893.

His parents were Tordoff Barker(10/10/1857-1930) and Elizabeth Garside(08/04/1860-1943). They married on 29/03/1885. 

Herbert had 2 sisters; Mary(03/02/1886-1978) and Annie(15/03/1890-22/03/1982).

In the 1901 census, the family were recorded as living at 2 School Place, New Road Side, Wyke, Bradford.

Tordoff was employed by the Low Moor Iron works  as a steam hammer driver.

The 1911 census shows that the family had moved to

2 Church Street, New Road Side, Wyke, Bradford.

Tordoff   was still employed in the same job and Herbert was now working as a warehouse lad in a worsted mill warehouse. 

Herbert enlisted in Bradford and was killed in action on 13/03/1918.

He was awarded the 1914-1918 British War and

Allied Victory medals.

His mother received a pension of 10/- a week from 24/09/1918.
