Born at 6.10am on 05/04/1893 at Rosemarkie,

Ross shire, Scotland.

His parents were George McPhee(1851-31/03/1921) and Isabella White(20/02/1863-09/03/1910). They married on 14/06/1880.

Robert had 6 brothers; Andrew(16/01/1882-08/11/1965),James(25/03/1884-09/12/1918),William(29/10/1890-1942),

Duncan(born on 11/08/1895), John(19/04/1898-1979) and Francis(born on 24/05/1901).

He also had 3 sisters; Georgina(10/07/1886-01/04/1908), Elsie(born on 19/12/1903) and Margaret(14/03/1907-21/02/1984).

In the 1901(Scottish) census, the family were recorded as living in tents at Clashmugach,Dornoch,Sutherland,Scotland. George was employed as a stone breaker.

On 14/09/1910, he married Jessie Mcmillan(born on 14/02/1896) and they had a daughter Jean(21/01/1916-1996)

 

In the 1911(Scottish) census,Robert was recorded living on a public road with his brother Duncan in Urquhart,Inverness; Both men were working as hawkers.        

Robert enlisted in Inverness and his date of disembarkation into France was on 12/12/1915.

He was killed in action on 28/09/1918.

Robert was awarded the 1914-1915 Star,the 1914-1918 British War and Allied Victory medals.

His widow Jessie was awarded a pension of 20/- 5d a week from 28/04/1919.

Jessie remarried on 26/11/1919 to Thomas Brown.
