43666 Private George James William Barnes

    9th Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers

                18th September 1918

Born in Devonport,Devon in 1889.

His parents were George James Barnes(1867-1920) and Elizabeth Goss Phillips(1863-1933),who were married in 1887.

He had 1 brother,Leonard(born in 1893) and 3 sisters,Emily(born in 1892),Melita Victoria(1897-1959) and Lilian(28/02/1900-1996).

In the 1891 census the family were recorded as living at 8 Kingsgate Road,Hampstead London.

George Senior was employed as a coach builders labourer.

In the 1911 census, the family were now living at 13 Nelson Road Lower Edmonton London.George Senior was employed as a labourer and cook at the bank of England. George Junior was also working and he was employed as a porter at a butchers.

In 1915 he married Coral Maud Fruin(1888-1955)and they had a son called George James Frederick born on 16/04/1916

(who lived until 1984 living at 14 Mountbatten Court Andover Road Winchester.He was buried on 07/12/1984 in Magdalen Hill Cemetery Winchester Hampshire).

​​He enlisted in London as a Private(4615) into the 3/8th Battalion London Regiment.He was later transferred as a Private(43666)

into the 9th Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers.

He was killed in action on 18/09/1918.
