He was born on 27/08/1885 at 4.30pm at Whitehills, Boyndie, Banff, Fife.
His parents were Peter Paton (unable to find any records) a farm servant and Isabella Legg (06/03/1860-1937),
she later went onto marry John Paterson (born on 13/03/1864) on 06/07/1889.
Peter had 2 stepbrothers, Alexander Legg (born on 15/01/1887, no father given on the birth certificate) and John (born in 1900, when his mother was now married).
He also had 5 stepsisters, Helen Jane (19/01/1890-1952), Ann Forbes (born on 14/03/1891),
Elizabeth Sharp (16/08/1892-1972), Mary (born in 1896) , Jessie (1899-1934) and
Maggie Bella (17/10/1902-1950).
In the 1891 (Scottish) census Peter was living with his mother and stepfather at 2 Church Lane Turriff.
His stepfather john was employed as a rural postman.
The 1901(Scottish) census shows that Peter had left home and was working and living at
Westside(farm), Forglen, Banff and was employed as a general farm servant.
Sometime in the next few years, Peter made the decision to move south and relocated to Liverpool when in 1908
he married Alice Melling (29/05/1887-1960) and they had a daughter Norah (12/01/1909-10/06/1974).
In the 1911 census, Peter and his family were recorded as living at 57, Regent Road, Liverpool and he was employed as a manager of a public house.
Peter enlisted in Seaforth Lancashire joining the 12th Battalion The King’s (Liverpool) Regiment.as Private 42496.
He was killed in action on 16/08/1917.
Peter was awarded the British War 1914-1918 and Allied Victory medals.

Paton – August 16, killed in action, Private Peter Paton (our Dad), the dearly–loved and devoted husband of Alice Paton (Sadly missed by his sorrowing Wife and Child.) – 15 Winslow Street.
His widow was awarded a pension of 18/9 a week from 04/03/1918 on 28/02/1918.
Alice his wife later remarried on 07/06/1919 to William Griffiths (born on 02/03/1885).
