Born in Islington, London in 1891. His parents were William Alfred Pike (1846-31/03/1926) and
Eliza Julia Booker (10/01/1854-22/02/1928). They were married on 24/12/1871.
Edgar had 4 brothers, William Alfred (13/08/1873-1947), James John(born in 1882), Herbert (1884-1959)
and Charles (06/02/1894-1981).
He also had 4 sisters, Florence Louisa (1877-1964), Charlotte Ada (born in 1880), Maud (1886-1946)
and Jessie (10/05/1888-1945).
In the 1891 census, the family was recorded as living at 1 Bath Place, Islington, London. William snr. was employed as a cabman,
a job he would do all his working life.
The 1901 census shows the family had moved home and were now living at 25 Cornwall Cottages, Islington, London.
In the 1911 census is shows that Edgar was now employed as a guard on a van, whilst the family's address had also changed
to 6 Edinburgh Cottages, Popham Street, Islington.
On 07/04/1912, Edgar married Emma Wakefield (born on 30/11/1891) and their wedding certificate shows that Edgar was now working as a painter and living at 6 Wellington Place, Islington. They had 1 child, a daughter, Louisa Jessie (12/09/1914-2000).
Edgar enlisted at Finsbury Barracks and was sent to France on 09/02/1915. He was killed in action just 3 months later on 09/05/1915.
Emma, his widow was awarded 15/- a week from 29/11/1915 on 19/11/1915.
Edgar was awarded the 1914-1915 Star, the 1914-1918 British War and Allied Victory medals. These remained unclaimed and permission was sought on 14/02/1922 to dispose of the medals.
