 543 Lance Corporal Harold John Reid Lindsay
  A Company 7th Battalion Gordon Highlanders

Born at 9.30pm on 24/10/1896 at Damhead, Raimoir, Banchory Ternan, Kincardinshire, Scotland. His parents were

William Carr Lindsay (23/10/1863-13/10/1933) and Jane Grey (1855-20/12/1950). They were married on 06/05/1891.

Jane was a widow who had previously been married on 30/06/1880 to William Davidson (1836-02/11/1885). They had

had 2 children, Robert Grey (born on 12/09/1880) and Rachel (11/12/1883-14/08/1972).

Harold had an older brother, William (born on 16/11/1894)  and a sister Jane Grey (07/10/1891-01/03/1975).

In the 1901(Scottish) Census, the family were recorded as living at Damhead Banchory Ternan, William snr. was working as a millwright and carpenter.

By the 1911(Scottish) census, Harold had left home and was living and working as a farm servant on Balwearie Farm,

Banchory Ternan.

He enlisted in 1914 in Banchory.

Patriotic Banchory Oddfellows

The following members of the St Ternan Lodge of Oddfellows are now serving in various branches of His Majesty’s forces:-

Private Harold Lindsay – A Company 7th Gordons.

Harold was sent to France on 02/05/1915. He was killed in action on 13/11/1916.

He was awarded the 1914-1915 Star, the 1914-1918 British War and Allied Victory medals.

Mr William Lindsay, millwright, Raemoir, Banchory, has received intimation that his son, Lce-Cpl. Harold J.R. Lindsay has been

killed in action.

Previous to mobilisation, Lindsay was employed with his father.
