            2801 Corporal Duncan McGregor
            6th(Perthshire)Battalion(Territorial)

Born on 25/10/1886 in Stanley, Perthshire. His parents were James McGregor (26/01/1861-21/05/1935) and Annie Donaldson (01/05/1864 - 30/12/1944). They were married on 08/06/1883.

Duncan had 2 brothers, Alexander(born in 1890) and James( born in 1894). He also had 5 sisters, Jane Ann (1884-15/11/1900), Christina (born in 1885), Janet (born in 1889), Helen Wilson Brown (born in 1892) and Adeline Ann (born in 1896).

In the 1891(Scottish) census, the family was recorded as living at Williamston Cottages, Madderty, Perthshire. James was employed as an agricultural labourer.

In the 1901(Scottish) census, the family were shown to have moved to Brachead, Redgorton, Perthshire and James was now employed as a linen bleacher. Duncan had now also started working as he too was employed as a linen bleacher.

On 01/07/1910 Duncan married Margaret Lennon ( born on 05/12/1886) and they had 2 daughters, Helen Taylor(born on 22/11/1911) and Annie Donaldson (24/05/1914-26/06/2011). 

In the 1911(Scottish) census, Duncan and his family were recorded as Dunkeld Road, Auchtergaven, Perthshire. Duncan was now employed as a cotton belt weaver. 

Duncan enlisted in Perth and was sent to France on 02/05/1915. He was killed in action on 13/11/1916.

He was awarded the 1914-1915 Star, the 1914-1918 British War and Allied Victory medals.

 

His wife Margaret was awarded a pension of 24/2 a week on 07/05/1917 starting from 28/05/1917.
