Born in Halifax,Yorkshire on 06-02-1887.He was baptised on 20-03-1887.
In the 1901 cenus ,he is recorded as living with his father,James(1864-1954), a Carter,his mother Emma,born in 1865(nee Chapman(married 25-12-1885),at 15 Ambler Terrace,Halifax.He was employed as a drapers errand boy.
He also had two sisters,Emma(1890 -1982) and Rena May(1906-1996).
In the 1911 census,the family had moved to 176 Boothtown Road,Halifax.His father was now working as a fish and potato fryer,whilst Edgar was a cotton twiner.
0n 30-12-1911 he married Annie Butterfield (1886-1933) and they had two daughters,Nellie(born in 1913) and Elsie(born in 1915).
He enlisted in Halifax into the West Riding Regiment as a Private(20635)before being transferred to the 14th Labour Corps,Lincolnshire Regiment as a Private(39748).
He was transferred again to the 81st Company Labour Corps as a Private(124959).
He was killed in action on 05-07-1917.
His wife later remarred to Joseph Horton in 1919.
