19/140 Sergeant Thomas William Watson

       8th battalion Royal Irish Rifles

                   7th June 1917

Born in Maze County Antrim,Northern Ireland in 1884.

In the 31-03-1901 Irish census,he is recorded as living with his father,Samuel John Watson(born in 1855),a carter,his mother Isabella(nee Crozier(married 10-11-1883)),born in 1865

in Killinchy-in-the-woods(Crossgar,down).

He had 1 brother,James(born in 1898) and 3 sisters,Sarah(born in 1892),Jane(born in 1893) and Mary (born in 1900). 

On 25-12-1907 he married Susanna Johnson(1889-1949) and in the 1911 Irish census taken on 02-04-1911,Thomas was employed as a carter and they lived on Laganvale Street,Cromac,Co.Antrim.

They had 2 children,Samuel John (who died in 1980) and Margaret Johnson(who died in 1997).

He enlisted in Belfast and was killled in action on 07-06-1917.

At the time of his death, his father was living at 4 & 6 Maxwell Street,Sandy Row,Belfast.

His widow later remarried in 1919 to Hugh Boyd.
