Born in Leicester in 1883.
In the 1911 census,he is recorded as living with his father,
Thomas Merry(born in 1858),a riveter in the shoe trade,his mother, Elizabeth Ann(nee Bailey(married 1876))born in 1858 at
7 Wanlip Street Leicester.
He had 2 brothers, Alfred(born in 1878) and Arthur James
(born in 1891) and 4 sister,Ellen(born in 1876),Maria
(born in 1880),Ada(born in 1884),Drusilla(born in 1888)
and Elsie May (born in 1895.
Like his father,Thomas was also employed as a riveter in the shoe trade.
In 1913 he married Phyllis Ann J Pratt(1888-11-01-1930).
He enlisted in Leicester as a private(36175) in the 3rd Battalion Leicestershire Regiment,but was later transferred as a private(211037) to the 81st Labour Corps.
He was killed in action on 05-07-1917.
