42011 Rifleman Edward John William Leaver

         9th Battalion Royal Irish Rifles

                      7th June 1917

Born in Battersea,Surrey on 10-11-1883. He was baptised on 06-01-1884.

He is recorded in the 1911 census as living with his father, John William Leaver(born in 1854), a signalman with London,Brighton & south coast railway,his mother

Emma(nee Burr(married 1883)) at 137 Maysoule Road,

Plough Road,Battersea.

He had 2 brothers,Laurence Adrian(born 1887) and Walter James(born 1889) and also a sister,Gertrude Emma

(born in 1891).

He married Rose Gertrude May in 1911 and they lived at

64 Maysoule Road,Battersea.

He was employed by the London,Brighton & South Coast Railway,starting work as a porter on 12-04-1907 at Ockley Station.He had been recommended for the job by the army.

He was moved to Clapham Junction on 07-08-1909.

He became assistant guard at Victoria Station on 28-02-1910.

He resigned from his job on 03-01-1917.

He originally enlisted as a Private(36794) in the Kings Royal Rifle Corps,before being transferred as a Rifleman(42011) in the 9th Battalion Royal Irish Rifles.

He was killed in action on 07-06-1917.
