44370 Rifleman Charles Albert Fanning

       9th Battalion Royal Irish Rifles

                    7th June 1917

Born in Poplar,Essex in 1888.

In the 1911 census,he is recorded as living with his father,William Robert Fanning(born 1852),an engine turner in a paper making factory,his mother Martha(nee Weyman(married 1875)) at 674 Old Ford Road,Bow East.He was employed as a warehouseman in a paper making factory.

He had 7 siblings,not all lived with him in 1911.His brothers were,William Frederick(born 1881),Henry George(born 1885) and Alfred Robert(born 1893).

His sisters were,Martha Maud(born 1876),Elizabeth Mary(born 1879),Alice (born 1883) and Helena(born 1891).

He enlisted in Finsbury,Surrey,becoming a Private(10497)

in the 1st Battalion Hertfordshire Regiment.

He was later transferred to become Private (132925(15111))

in the 8th Battalion Somerset Light Infantry.

His final transfer was into the 9th Battalion Royal Irish Rifles.

His dis-embarkation into France was on 11-09-1915.

He was killed in action on 07-06-1917
