                     11th July 1917

Born in Bloomsbury,London in 1898.

In the 1901 census,he is recorded as living with his father Francis Charles Carty(1867-1902),a coal carman,

his mother,Emily Eliza Alice 1886-12/1924

(nee Charles(married 26-12-1887)),along with

his brothers,William Thomas(born 1889),

Francis Charles(born 1895),Henry T(born 1896) and Walter H(born 1901)and his sister Elizabeth(born 1890)

at 33 Woburn Mews West Bloomsbury,London.

In the 1911 census the family were living at 36 Rosebank Grove Walthamstow,his widowed mother was a book folder and Edward was an errand boy after school.He also had another brother,John Frederick(born 1902).

He enlisted in Walthamstow  and was killed in action on 11-07-1917.

His mothers address at the time of his death was

54 Luton Road Walthamstow.

His older brother Francis Charles had also enlisted and was (10391) Lance Corporal in 2nd Battalion Essex Regiment.He died of his wounds on 29-03-1915 and is buried in the Strand Military Cemetery in Belgium.
